East-West Pipeline Updates

(Courtesy of nCa) — Turkmenistan will start building a multi-billion-dollar gas pipeline in June 2010. The East-West pipe would connect all the major gas fields of Turkmenistan to a single network.
Two state corporations – Turkmengaz and Turkmennebitgazgurlushyk (Turkmen Oil and Gas Construction) – have been tasked to undertake the project.

The announcement was made Friday by President Berdymuhamedov during a meeting of the cabinet of ministers. Keep Reading »

Kyrgyzstan:  Closed borders continue to hamper trade and in particular the regional shuttle trade that supplies local bazaars and small businesses.  Currently Kazakhstan is allowing trains to pass through its territory towards “third party destinations.”  Continued unrest in the South of Kyrgyzstan may prolong this economic isolation.

Upcoming Regional Business Conferences

CaspianIn the next few weeks several regional business/economic conferences will be taking place in the region.  Two confirmed include ITE’s 17th International Caspian Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference to take place June 1-4 in Baku, Azerbaijan.   In addition, the U.S. Department of Energy will be hosting a conference on Energey Efficiency in Istanbul Turkey from June 3-4.   According to the press release: This comprehensive conference, which will focus on energy efficiency in Southeast Europe and the Caucasus, is part of an effort to highlight the role that energy efficiency can play in making companies more profitable and governments more effective.
